Create your own Japanese Sleep System! The Kimara Platform Bed with Tatami Mats and Shiki Mat is the popular Kimara Platform Bed with the Tatami Mats and Shiki Mat included to make it easy!

The Kimara Platform Bed is a simple but elegant platform bed, blending eco-friendly values with traditional Japanese design and craftsmanship. The Kimara is constructed with bamboo blocks that interlock into beautiful one-of-a-kind patterns, making every piece an individual. The Kimara's smooth headboard captures the wabi-sabi of the bamboo grains.

Find beauty in simplicity, as the simple design requires no tools for assembly, and interlocks into a stable and rugged platform bed, making the Kimara a perfect fit for a master bedroom as well as an apartment bedroom. The design, craftsmanship, and sustainability come together to provide a comfortable and sustainable sanctuary for a peaceful night's sleep.

Kimara takes inspiration from the Japanese words for trees and wood, merged with the names for spirit and energy, as it captures the essence of the forest and creates a positive place for your restorative slumber and peace of mind. Showing respect and appreciation for the forest, the Kimara Collection is constructed from 100% Solid Moso Bamboo, known for both its strength and environmental benefits. Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource, making it ideal for people conscious of their eco-footprints.

The Kimara is constructed with bamboo blocks that interlock into beautiful one-of-a-kind patterns, making every piece an individual. The Kimara's smooth finish captures the wabi-sabi of the bamboo grains across the faces and headboard. Featuring two beautiful finishes, a warm caramelized, achieved by heating the bamboo blocks to precise temperatures, and a rich black walnut, which is an extremely low VOC stain.

Our Kimara collection features the Kimara Platform Bed, perfect for tatami mats, Japanese futons, and traditional Western mattresses. The traditional lines and finishes are perfectly matched on the Kimara Nightstands, Kimara Dresser, and Kimara High Chest. Kimara pieces are right at home and look great in bedroom design styles including traditional Japanese, Modern, and Mid-Century Modern.

Good Looking Bed, Don't Rush Assembly

The Kimara Bed looks amazing. The bamboo grain and patterns are beautiful, and it fits perfectly in my bedroom. It's solid, sturdy, and eco-friendly. Just what I was looking for.
That said, let me share a word of advice for anyone assembling it: take your time. The bed uses Japanese joinery, so the pieces are meant to slot together. It's a very solid design, but everything needs to be squared up, and when it is, the pieces will slide together easily. If you find yourself forcing it, just stop, relax and start over. Or just call them at Haiku Designs and they'll walk you through it.
Once I knew what I was doing, the bed came together perfectly and has been rock-solid. If you're looking for a beautiful, sustainable bed that's easy to assemble (as long as you're patient), I highly recommend the Kimara. Just don't try to force it--you'll thank me later!

The Kimara Collection furniture is made of 100% natural bamboo. It is very hard, dense and extremely durable. Like any natural hardwood furniture, maintaining the humidity in a controlled environment is also very important for bamboo furniture. Keeping the relative humidity in the range of 40 to 55 percent will greatly reduce the potential for any checking or warping, allowing you to better preserve the natural beauty of the pieces. Here are some general tips that'll go a long way towards maintaining and caring for your new furniture pieces.

Damage Prevention

  • Use coasters and pads to prevent damage from heat, moisture or heavy objects.
  • Do not use wax or polish on your bamboo furniture.
  • To prevent staining or water marks, make sure to clean spills immediately, using a dabbing motion with a soft cloth.

Cleaning

  • For periodic cleaning use a soft cloth and a gentle cleaner designed for wood furniture.
  • Avoid cleaners that contain abrasive materials, oil, acidic or caustic ingredients or any other harsh chemicals.

Avoiding Scratches

  • To avoid scratches, take care to lift objects and never drag or slide them across surfaces.

Keep Away from Heat

  • Avoid placing furniture directly in front of heat vents, wood burning stoves or other heat sources.
  • Never place bamboo furniture in direct sunlight day after day.
Made with Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Bamboo

Bamboo is an incredibly durable and eco-friendly raw material. About 20% harder than Red Oak and capable of reaching maturity within 3-5 years, Bamboo is a rapidly renewable and eco-friendly alternative to solid wood. Additionally, Bamboo is one of the best plants on the planet to sequester carbon, releasing up to 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees.

Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS): This certification is granted to products in line with the standards set by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, ensuring quality, grading, and organic practices. Moreover, this certification gives assurance to producers, processors, and consumers by regulating and upholding product integrity and quality.

GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard Certification

Global Organic Textile Standard: GOTS is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.

GOLS Global Organic Latex Standards Certification

Global Organic Latex Standards: The GOLS standard addresses criteria for natural rubber from certified organic plantations (USDA NOP or EU) that is processed at manufacturing units. To achieve GOLS certification, a product must contain more than 95% of certified organic raw material. Rubber plantations as well as processing units up to the final retailer are certified according to the standard. By using transaction certificates at every sale of a product in the supply chain, traceability from the plantation to the final retailer is ensured.

Made with All-Natural Wool

Our natural wool vendors have conditions in which sheep are raised humanely with plenty of room to graze and enjoy the sunshine in a mulesing free environment. The sheep are treated respectfully and do not get harmed to produce the wool for our bedding.
